Even at times when the civil rights movement seemed to be going nowhere, and the progress yet to be obtained seemed endless, Rosa and her peers always hoped for more. At the end of Rosa’s story, she mentions that while the movement has come so far, and much progress has been achieved, there is still so much more that must be done. At less than two hundred pages, the book is quite minuscule, and yet the story that it tells is quite gripping. My initial thought on the purpose of the book would be to tell the story of how Rosa Parks became such a great influence on the world of civil rights, which it did, but in addition to this, it had many other concepts to offer. In 1992, Parks published Rosa Parks: My Story. Her husband died of throat cancer on August 19, 1977. Her brother died of cancer that same year but in November (1977). On August 8, 1995, she was sentenced to eight to fifteen years in prison. Rosa Parks died in Detroit on October 24, 2005. She died of natural causes at the age of 92.
