Rosa Parks was a prominent figure in the US civil rights movement of the 60’s. She is known for sparking an early protest of segregation when she refused to, as was the policy of the time, give her seat up to a white passenger and go to the back of the bus. The seat she was in was in the first row behind the white section. When that section filled, the next row back was supposed to become part of the white section and any non-white person was supposed to move back.
