Rosa Parks remained an icon of the civil rights movement to the end of her life. In 1999, the United States Congress honored her with a Congressional Gold Medal. Following her death on October 24, 2005, she was accorded the rare tribute of having her remains lie in honor in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in recognition of her contribution to Rosa Parks is a 2013 bronze sculpture depicting the African-American civil rights activist of the same name, installed in the United States Capitol's National Statuary Hall, as part of the collection of the Architect of the Capitol. In 2001, the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, consecrated Rosa Parks Circle, a 3.5-acre park designed by architect Maya Lin, who is best known for designing the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington. That was our big chance to stop at Rosa Parks Museum on Friday because it is closed every Saturday & Sunday. We got up at 5 am and left home at 6 am. We are from Louisiana that we traveled to Montgomery to visit it at 3 pm before it would be closed by 5 pm. We did made it. Whew! Yes it is interesting to learn about history of brave Rosa Parks.
