On February 4, Americans and civil rights activists will celebrate the birthday of Rosa Parks, one of the most influential African American woman during the civil rights movement. Education World has gathered some lesson plans and activities educators can use to teach their students about Rosa Rosa loved to learn and studied hard at high school. But, sadly, she had to leave school at 16 to care for her dying grandmother and, shortly after, her very sick mother. When she was 19 years old, Rosa married a barber called Raymond Parks, who encouraged her to return to high school to earn her diploma (an education certificate). Initially, Rosa attended the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls, which was a school specifically for Black students and covered 9th grade.
