Rosa’s Education. Miss White’s Montgomery Industrial School for Girls required its students to wear uniforms and forbade make-up, jewelry, movies, and dancing. Rosa completed ninth grade at Booker T. Washington Junior High in Montgomery and the tenth and eleventh grades at Alabama State Teachers College without these restrictions. Rosa Parks is best known for what she did in her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama, on December 1, 1955. While she sat in a seat in the middle of the bus behind the 10 front seats that were saved for white passengers, the bus driver told her to move to the back of the bus so a white passenger could take the seat toward the middle of the bus. Rosa loved to learn and studied hard at high school. But, sadly, she had to leave school at 16 to care for her dying grandmother and, shortly after, her very sick mother. When she was 19 years old, Rosa married a barber called Raymond Parks , who encouraged her to return to high school to earn her diploma (an education certificate).
