The Rosa Parks Dance and the Broader Issue of Racism in Dance Moms When I watched this episode when I was younger, I knew it was horrid for Jill to even TRY IT. But now that I’m a full adult, I can not believe that Jill even had the gaul to think her very white, very much not black child, would ever be considered to play the part of Rosa Parks. Maddie’s leaving berlin solo was one of her best, probably best at that time. same for Kendall, look at me now was her highest scoring solo to date. Paige and Chloe both did phenomenal in the broadway blondes duet. In it, moms Vertes and Holly Frazier argue with Abby over which daughter should play the civil rights icon. “Since the dance is called ‘Rosa Parks,’ obviously this is a part destined for Nia [the only Black dancer on the show],” Frazier says in the episode. But Miller doesn’t seem so sure. It's generally accepted that the "Kendall should be Rosa Parks" storyline was 100% concocted by the producers. I bet Jill was the only one willing to play the "mom who wants her white daughter to play Rosa Parks," though. I know this has probably been discussed before, but Im new to dm reddit and Im rewatching dance moms as an adult right now after watching as a kid. Abby said in the episode that she's of course going to give Nia the role, she just wants her to work for it. The translation is she's of course going to give Nia the role, it's just the producers want some drama of who's going to be the lead so she'll draw it out. i’m rewatching and the rosa parks dance was actually really good 😭 like the choreography, the song, the costumes. really great piece. also this whole episode was really good. the solos and duet did rlly good and they beat cathy in everything. 10/10 i understand the whole jill storyline was fabricated so i paid no attention to that lol. soo next week should be the week Kelly and Christi finally recap the rosa parks episode !!!! i had made a joke on this sub saying they need to have Jill on it, and on their most recent episode, Kelly said she had thought the same thing initially, but now she wants Holly! She tried to shove her kid down Abby’s throat on numerous occasions, and Rosa Parks was no different. It also wasn’t like she asked one time, was told no, and let it go. She asked Abby multiple times if her child could fulfill the role, defended her decision to the moms, and later doubled down on it in her interviews. S3 Ep14 the girls do a piece about Rosa Parks. Nia is on top of the pyramid and deserves a featuring role in the group dance. Jill fights with the other moms and Abby to try to get Kendall to play Rosa Parks bc she thinks she deserves a feature in the dance. The civil rights movements is a lot deeper than her daughter getting a feature in a dance.
